Grand Pa Milton was in "The Mighty 8th" during WW2 and served as a Bombardier. He was sergeant and a decorated hero who received the Purple Heart. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, which is known as the Air Force today.
Grand Pa George served in the National Guard. Sadly, we don't know any more info or have any pictures of him in uniform.
Dad Henry served in the Navy in the late 1950's to early !960's. He was assigned to the USS Wilhoite (DE-397). He served on her after she was converted to a Radar Picket Ship. He conducted many picket tours on her while based out of their home port of Seattle, WA. In March 1959 both set sail for their new home port of Pearl Harbor, HI. They did "barrier patrols" and special operations, going as far north of Alaska. In 1961 they took part in operation "Deep Freeze", crossing the Antarctic Circle on 8 February. During their time at sea they visited ports in New Zealand and Australia before returning to Pearl Harbor via Pago Pago, Samoa. Later on he also served in the Navy Reserves.
Aunt Ellie served in the Army/WAC in the early 1960's. She was stationed at Fort George G Meade in MD with the 17th Artillery Group where she worked as a Battery Clerk, HQ. In January 1964 she was named WAC of the Quarter for the 35th Artillery Brigade. She says "I really enjoyed the military. Because of my service I went to college under the GI Bill and bought my first home with my VA benefits. In 2012, we refinanced our conventional loan to a VA loan and lowered our rate by several points! Needless to say, I have nothing but love for the military."
Cousin Jamie served in the Army. He attended "Jump School" at Fort Benning, GA. His son is heading into the Air Force.
Niece Naci is currently stationed overseas with Navy.
Nephew Josh is currently stationed overseas with the Navy.
Honorable Mention: Brother Hank is a retired NYPD Lieutenant. He served in Brooklyn, NY directly across from The Twin Towers. He was an immediate responder to the 9/11 attacks and spent several weeks after on-site doing search and recovery. After 20 years with the NYPD Hank became a pastor.
